Bryz returns to Phoenix, Flyers score 4 in 1st

December 5, 2011

Ilya Bryzgalov made his first return to Phoenix Saturday night, since signing with the Flyers.

The Flyers entered the game as the highest scoring team in the NHL, and they backed it up.

Matt Read (10, 4:23), Wayne Simmonds (5, 6:01), Claude Giroux (15, 16:13), and Scott Hartnell (11, 18:29) all scored in the first period, to give the Flyers a 4-0 cushion.

Phoenix's Ray Whitney scored in the second (9, 7:15) and Mikkel Boedker scored in the third (5, 19:19) to cut the Flyer's lead to two.

But Ilya Bryzgalov was able to stop 36 of his former team's 38 shots, to give the Flyers the 4-2 win.

Mike Smith was pulled by the Coyotes after a forgettable first period, where he only stopped 13 of 17 shots.

Jason Labarbera took goal for Phoenix in the last two periods and stopped all 13 shots he saw from the Flyers.

The Flyers will return to the east coast to continue their road trip. They will be in Buffalo Wednesday night to play the Sabres.
