Update: JVR back, Schenn out, no Crosby, alumni game

December 7, 2011

Van Riemsdyk returns to the lineup

CSNPhilly.com's Tim Panaccio is reporting that forward James Van Riemsdyk will be in the lineup tonight in Buffalo, when the Flyers play the Sabres.

Van Riemsdyk has missed the last four games with an upper-body injury, that he says is still affecting his ability to shoot.

Schenn injured again

Panaccio is also reporting that forward Brayden Schenn is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Schenn did not make the trip to Buffalo with the team.

Panaccio also wrote about veteran defenseman Kimmo Timmonen and what he has been doing in his workouts, in order to become more durable over the season.

Crosby will not play against the Flyers

Thursday night is a big game, as the Flyers will clash with their hated Atlantic Division rival Pittsburgh Penguins at the Wells Fargo Center.

The Penguins will be without their captain, in forward Sidney Crosby.

CSNPhilly.com reports that Crosby did not make the trip to Philadelphia, and will not play in the Penguins next two games.

Crosby has missed a lot of time last year and this year with a concussion, and will sit out as a precaution.

Late goaltender additions to the alumni roster

A couple late additions have been made to the Flyer's alumni roster for the Winter Classic.

The Flyer's two greatest goaltenders, Bernie Parent and Ron Hextall, have been added.

Parent will play in goal for about five or 10 minutes on New Year's eve, but Hextall will not play for health reasons, according to CSNPhilly.com's Sarah Baicker. Instead, Hextall will serve as an ambassador to the team.

No offense to Neil Little and Mark LaForest, but the additions of Hextall and Parent make the alumni roster's goaltending look way better.
