Jagr scores two, Flyers win in OT

December 3, 2011

Jaromir Jagr and Brayden Schenn were back in the lineup Friday night, just in time for Bruce Boudreau to make his debut as head coach for the Anaheim Ducks.

Things looked to be going well in Boudreau's debut, as the Ducks were able to score three against former Duck Ilya Bryzgalov (who has not started in goal for the Flyers since November 23 against the Islanders).

Andrew Cogliano (6, 8:12) and Teemu Selanne (9, 10:34) scored in the first period to give Anaheim a  2-0 lead. Then Andrew Gordon scored his first of the year, in the second (6:31), to make it 3-0 Anaheim.

Going into Friday night, the Flyers had four days off since playing their last game against the Rangers on Sunday.

The rust was showing from the Flyer's down time, but late in the second, Jagr was able to snap them out of it.

Jagr scored a power play goal (7, 15:18) by a deflection, off a shot from Kimmo Timmonen, to make it a 3-1 game.

In the third period, Jagr scored again (8, 4:46) off a slapshot that blew right past Jonas Hiller, to make it 3-2. Jagr recorded an assist later on, to go along with his two goals, finishing with three points on the night.

Later in the period, Kimmo Timmonen set Scott Hartnell up with a one-time pass from behind the net. Hartnell scored (10, 16:58) to tie the game up 3-3.

Kimmo Timmonen had an excellent night, recording three assists.

The third period ended in a tie, so the teams were headed to overtime.

Claude Giroux continued his great season by scoring the game winner (14, 3:29), giving the Flyers the 4-3 overtime win, and spoiling Boudreau's Ducks debut.

Jonas Hiller performed well in net for the first half of the game, but it all fell apart in the latter half.

Hiller saw a staggering 47 shots, making 43 saves.

Ilya Bryzgalov, unlike Hiller, had a rough first half, but recovered in the second half of the game. He also saw only 22 shots, not even half of the shots Hiller took.

Bryzgalov made 19 saves.

The Flyers are now 14-7-3, with 31 points on the season. That currently puts them in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Phoenix will be the Flyers next destination on their west coast road trip. They will face Bryzgalov's other former team, the Phoenix Coyotes, on Saturday for their second game in as many days.

Extra Notes

Jaromir Jagr is two goals shy of tying Brendan Shannahan for 11th place on the career goals list. Shannahan has 656, Jagr, with his two goals against Anaheim, has 654.

Defenseman Matt Walker cleared waivers and was recalled from the Phantoms, but was scratched from the lineup Friday night.
