45 shots, no goals, and a shootout loss

February 8, 2012

A rough weekend for the Flyers carried over into this week.

Ilya Bryzgalov stopped all 18 shots he faced from the visiting New York Islanders, and was even named the third star of the game. And yet, when that announcement was made, the fans booed him.

Why? Another shootout loss.

Bryzgalov and the Flyer's D kept the Islanders off the board in regulation, and the overtime period. However, Bryzgalov, once again, struggled in the shootout.

The Islander's Fran Nielsen and John Tavares easily scored on their shootout attempts, while Danny Briere, who returned Tuesday night after being out with a concussion, and Wayne Simmonds were kept off the board by goaltender Evgeni Nabokov.

The Islanders won the shootout, and the game by a 1-0 final.

Nabokov was dominant for the Islanders, stopping all 45 of the Flyer's shots in regulation and in overtime.

The loss to the Islanders makes it three straight, and a 1-5 record this season in the shootout.

The Flyers did play well against the Islanders, but things just didn't go their way.

On Thursday night, the Flyer's will try to shake off the loss and build off their good play against New York, when the Maple Leafs visit the Wells Fargo Center.
