February 7, 2012

Finally, some good news for the Flyers!

Danny Briere will play tonight against the New York Islanders.

On Monday, Briere said it was possible that he could return for tonight, but it seemed unlikely. However, Briere says that he feels good, and is ready to play again,“Things have been going well the last two and a half, three days. I feel ready. I feel like it’s time. No symptoms the last few days, so we’ll give it a go. I know I’m excited.”

Briere has been out since January 21, when he sustained the concussion during the road game against the New Jersey Devils.

His return comes after a rough weekend, where the Flyers lost on Saturday to the Devils, then dropped their fourth straight this season to the Rangers.

Briere hopes that he "can provide a little spark,” tonight.

JVR continues to progress

James Van Riemsdyk remains out indefinitely with a concussion. He has been out since January 7, when he got the concussion against the Ottawa Senators.

Van Riemsdyk is making progress, but at a slower pace than Briere.

Tim Panaccio of CSNPhilly.com reports that even though JVR is still out, he seems more upbeat no than he was before.

CSNPhilly.com also reports that the trade rumors that involved Van Riemsdyk being traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs for defenseman Luke Schenn are fading out; citing multiple sources that state that the Leafs have lost interest since Van Riemsdyk got his concussion.
