BREAKING NEWS: The and Defenseman Nicklas Grossmann have agreed to a multiple-year contract extension.

Tim Panaccio of CSNPhilly.com reports that Grossmann, 27, will be signing on for a four-year deal that is worth $14 million. The salary cap hit is $3.5 million, according to sources that told CSNPhilly.com the details of the deal.

The contract that Grossmann originally had with the Dallas Stars, before he was traded to Philadelphia, was a two-year worth $3.25 million.

Grossmann's cap hit on his Dallas contract was $1.625 million.

Though he is currently sidelined with a day-to-day knee injury, Grossmann has considerably made the Flyer's defense be more physical, which is something they have been lacking since they lost Chris Pronger for the year.

Grossmann has averaged 18:25 of ice time since the trade to the Flyers, and has almost been like a second goalie on the ice. He blocked 100 shots this season for Dallas and, according to Panaccio, has blocked 52 for the Flyers so far.

Keeping Grossmann around is important for the Flyers, because as of right now, it does not seem very likely that Chris Pronger will be able to play again. On top of that, Matt Carle has the option to become a free agent after this season.
