Read, Flyers win in final seconds

November 18, 2011

Ilya Bryzgalov faced his former team, the Phoenix Coyotes, Thursday night.

Bryzgalov was looking for a win against his former team, and rookie forward Matt Read got it for him.

With the game tied 1-1 in the final seconds of the third, Jakub Voracek took a shot from the boards. Max Talbot got control of the rebound off Coyote's goaltender Mike Smith, and threw another shot on that was blocked, but Read was there for the third effort to put the puck in for his sixth goal of the season, and give the Flyers a 2-1 lead with 18.6 seconds left in the game.

After the game a happy Bryzgalov gave Read a hug to show appreciation for his late game heroics.

Bryzgalov had yet another solid in game in net, making 30 saves and allowing only one goal in 31 shots. He also denied Coyote's foward Ray Whitney on a break away.

Bryzgalov allowed the goal to Phoenix's Mikkel Boedker (3) in the third (3:38) on a shot that was able to slide under Bryzgalov's pad. The goal tied the game 1-1.

James Van Riemsdyk scored his seventh of the year in the second period (12:37) that gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead.

Mike Smith saw 42 shots from Philadelphia, making 40 saves.

Zac Rinaldo received a 10 minute misconduct penalty.

Jaromir Jagr left the game in the first period with a lower-body injury that was later revealed to be a groin injury.

New Hall of Famer and former Flyer Mark Howe was present at Thursday night's game and received a standing ovation.

The Flyers regained control of the top spot in the Eastern Conference, for the time being, with the win.

They will go on the road to Winnipeg to play the Jets on Saturday night.
